About Me:
Having lived through the '60's without dying or contracting any dread diseases, I have come to a point in my life where I feel I have something to offer those who come behind. If not in wisdom, at least with experience.

My novel illustrates the good and bad sides of relationships and the consequences of our decisions and actions.

"Mother's Journals: parts 1, 2 & 3" is my first novel. It covers 3 generations of women in one family. Margery dies, leaving her journals to her only daughter, Mary. Mary learns of the many trials and hardships her mother had endured and secrets that no one spoke of during her lifetime. Mary's neice, Ellen has trials of her own, and torrid love affairs. This book may prompt a few cold showers, and is intended for a mature audience only due to some graphic content.

This was written to illustrate the difference between both the good and the bad relationships, as well as how women of another generation dealt with trials of abuse, rape and family problems.

Most of the experiences I have written about have happened to me, to others I have known and many I now know.

Some people do not understand what abuse is, and this was my way of offering a little education while providing entertainment.

I have also been blogging on my website: http://www.zadaconnaway.com in an effort to stop at least a little of the abuse that exists in this world, and promote safe behavior--especially for women. Children are of course a prime concern as well.

Burn out

With all the writing I have been doing on abuse of various sorts, and the terrible reports in the news, I had to take a little break. A short while ago I ordered and read Wooffer: stories you can read to your dog, by Betty Fasig. It was a great escape from the mundane troubles of the world. Here is my review of this marvelous little book:

Just a little kindness

In this busy world we live in, it is often easy to completely overlook the people who surround us.

It only takes a moment to smile, and what is the cost of holding a door for someone? You just might make someone's day a little brighter.

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to frown at someone who is smiling? For me, it is almost impossible. And usually, if I smile at someone who is frowning, they return my smile. Smiles seem to be contagious.

I have been told that it takes only a f

Keeping women and vulnerable adults safe - don't be a victim

It is very good to be aware of where our children are and what they are doing; but what about women and other vulnerable adults staying safe as well? As adults, we are the only ones who can tell ourselves what we can do to stay safe. Here are a couple of pointers:

Don’t park in an area that will be dark and shielded from view, especially if you know it will be after nightfall when you go to retrieve your car. Use valet parking when it is available.

Always be aware of your surroundings, and thi… Continue

Happiness Is optional

If one wishes to be happy, they must remember that happiness is not having what you want, but rather, wanting what you have.

It is also a choice that one makes. We can live in the misery with painful memories of the past. Or we can choose to let go of the pain and start fresh. The experiences we have had can become tools we use to have empathy for others. When we have been in the same painful spot as another individual, we can ease their burden by sharing our own trials.

Sometimes our own expe… Continue

Thank you Zada for your comment on my poem, "Angel of Peace." It's a kind of prayer for individuals to be able to maintain personal peace and harmony in the face of the modern world's many adversities.
