The Penny Collector is a work of fiction based on events of the Vietnam War and the aftermath that Cyrus(Copper)Penny has to face when he returns home.
In Vietnam he earned the nickname Copper and his army buddies called him Copper Penny because he brought them good luck, now he is known as the penny collector because he spends his day collecting pennies.The book follows the life of Cyrus (Copper)Penny, a Vietnam Vet, who has to face losing his leg, returning home and losing his wife to his best friend. Copper turns to the bottle and becomes an alcoholic. His heavy drinking leads to Copper losing his job and his home. He becomes homeless and must live under an interstate bridge. Copper spends his days picking up pennies and cashing the coins in. He doesn't believe in charity or handouts.
